IMPORTANT

The City of San Antonio Charitable Campaign (frequently referred to as the employee workplace giving drive) is administered in partnership with the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County as part of the broader San Antonio Metropolitan Area (SAMA) public-sector giving initiatives.

The campaign provides municipal employees with a structured, transparent mechanism to support local health, human service, and nonprofit programs across Bexar County.

Campaign Structure & Governance
• Administrative Partner: The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County manages campaign logistics, agency vetting, application portals, and donor processing for SAMA campaigns, which include the City of San Antonio, Bexar County, San Antonio Water System (SAWS), and 16 local school districts.
• Designation Codes: Eligible participating charities are assigned specific designations (such as the general Public Sector / City Campaign code #8016 or distinct individual agency partner codes) so donors can direct where their money goes.
• Agency Vetting: Every recipient non-profit undergoes a rigorous annual Standards Review to verify fiscal accountability, governance, and quantifiable outcomes before qualifying for campaign brochures.

Core Focus Areas
Donations made through the campaign primarily fund four community impact pillars established by the United Way:
• Ready Children: Expanding access to high-quality early childhood education, reducing child abuse, and boosting kindergarten readiness.
• Successful Students: Supporting emotional well-being, academic mentorship, and graduation pathways for local K–12 youth.
• Strong Individuals & Families: Improving workforce training, housing stability, and financial literacy to help households attain a living wage.
• Safety Net & Crisis Support: Assisting residents during acute emergencies (food, emergency shelter, utility assistance) and funding the 24/7/365 2-1-1 Texas helpline.

Ways Employees Participate
• Payroll Deductions: The primary pledge method enables employees to contribute a pre-selected dollar amount automatically every pay period across the following calendar year.
• Direct & One-Time Contributions: Donors can also choose to make one-time gifts via credit card, check, or digital portals.
• Donor Choice / Direct Designation: Employees can direct their gifts to the general community impact fund, specific impact focus areas, or individual vetted partner charities listed in the directory.
• Departmental Events: City departments routinely coordinate internal team competitions, chili cook-offs, basket raffles, and awareness drives during the annual kickoff period to encourage participation.

Typical Annual Timeline
• Spring (March–April): Non-profit agencies submit applications and compliance documents through the public-sector application portal (e-Cimpact) to be certified for inclusion.
• Fall (September–November): Active workplace pledge drives launch across City departments alongside promotional events, internal rallies, and goal tracking.
• January (Following Year): Approved payroll deductions take effect for the full calendar cycle.
